I have to admit that I came onto the Buffyverse late in the game. Buffy the Vampire Slayer began in March of 1997 and Angel ended May of 2004. I started watching it years later when it came to Netflix. I knew that people loved the vampire niche and I had heard that those shows were some of the best of the genre.
Why is a 63 year old woman so in love with a series that at first glance is made for kids?
I had no idea how captivated I was going to become when I started the series. I watched every episode - by myself, with my son , and then by myself again. I watched the movie with Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, and Paul Rubens. I even dug deep into the series and l I have read many of the novels that came after.
I knew that Buffy had a greater depth to it just by watching it. Experimental episodes like Hush and Once More with Feeling proved that that. But it was even more obvious after I listened to some podcasts about the series and read books like Why Buffy Matters. I realized that people have studied it as literature.
I don't have a Phd in Buffyology - I don't think one exists. However, there have been university courses taught about the series as art, and I hope to take one someday. I participate in every trivia night about the series that I can find - and the fact that they are still going on tells you something.
I had my bags packed to go to Southern CA for the latest Buffy convention when the Covid sirens to shelter in place started blaring in the East Bay county where I live. I can't wait to attend a convention in the post Covid world.
This site is to help others realize just how great the series is and to allow me the opportunity to spend more time dwelling in the Buffyverse.
I hope you join me.Î
